"NUDA TERRA"
Terra, creta, argilla? come la si vuol chiamare quella materia che forma le dolci colline dall'aspetto lunare situate in Toscana? Quando contemplo queste nude e crude terre arate, non posso fare a meno di pensare che la loro bellezza non può prescindere dall'amorevole fatica dell'uomo. E, a ogni scatto “sul campo”, mi chiedo, sarò riuscito a catturare la magica fusione che lega lavoro umano a luci, sfumature e colori della materia terra?
La Val d'Arbia, la Val d'Orcia, così come le colline del pisano dove sono state scattate queste foto, somigliano ad un mare ondoso dove spuntano qua e là in cima alle alture, cipressi e casolari solitari. Un paesaggio di morbide e sinuose colline che cambia colore di pari passo con il cambio delle stagioni. Ma è in autunno e in inverno, dopo i lavori di aratura fino a quando la terra resta spoglia, che sento forte il desiderio di tornare lì per cercare nuovi scatti e nuove emozioni. La "nuda terra" resa arida dal sole, o bagnata dalle piogge, si trasforma in una immensa e sconfinata tavolozza di colori che sfumano dal bianco ghiaccio al grigio che diventa azzurro, dal nocciola al marrone fino a diventare ruggine.
È in questo paesaggio lunare, in questa scala cromatica, tra ombre e luci di nuvole, albe e tramonti, tra linee e forme tracciate dall'uomo con il suo trattore ed il suo amore per la terra, che, estasiato da tanta bellezza, cerco di catturarne la magia.

"BARE EARTH"
Soil, clay? What do you want to call that material that forms the gentle, lunar-looking hills located in Tuscany? When I contemplate these bare, raw plowed lands, I cannot help but think that their beauty cannot be separated from the loving labor of man. And, with each shot "on the field," I ask myself, will I have succeeded in capturing the magical fusion that binds human labor to the lights, shades, and colors of the earth?
The Val d'Arbia, the Val d'Orcia, as well as the hills of the area around Pisa where these photos were taken, resemble a wavy sea where cypresses and lonely farmhouses sprout on top of the heights. A landscape of soft, sinuous hills that changes color as the seasons change. But it is in autumn and winter, after the plowing until the land remains bare, that I feel a strong desire to return there to seek new shots and new emotions. The "bare earth" withered by the sun, or wet by the rain, is transformed into an immense and boundless palette of colors that fade from ice white to gray that becomes blue, from hazel to brown to rust.
In this moonscape, in this color scale, among shadows and cloud reflections, sunrises and sunsets, among lines and shapes drawn by men with their tractors and their love for the land, captivated by so much beauty, I try to capture its magic.
